A pool on the playground - swimming comes to Brierley!

We're really excited to share that a pop-up swimming pool has arrived at school this term — and it's already proving to be a fantastic opportunity for our learners!

The pool, delivered by the Swim:ED programme, is set up right here on our MUGA. It's fully enclosed and covered, with heated water kept at a comfortable temperature between 27 and 32 degrees Celsius, so children can focus on building their confidence in the water in a safe, familiar setting. There's no travelling involved — the pool is right here on site, which makes the whole experience much less daunting, especially for children who haven't had much experience in the water before.

Every lesson is taught by certified swim teachers and supported by qualified lifeguards, with very small groups children at a time. Importantly, your child's teachers are there throughout — so alongside the Swim:ED team, there's always familiar faces on hand to offer reassurance and support when it's needed most.

You don't need to be a confident swimmer to take part — that's exactly the point. Swimming is a vital life skill, and we wanted to make sure every one of our learners gets the chance to feel more confident, competent and safe in the water. The Swim:ED programme is designed to meet children exactly where they are and help them progress at their own pace.

Changing takes place in a supervised designated space on site, and your child's teacher will share everything they need to know before their lesson. We've also attached a parent information leaflet below, which covers what your child will need to bring, what to expect on the day, and how you can help them prepare at home.

We're so pleased to be able to offer this to our children this term — and we can't wait to hear how they get on.
