A proud moment as inspectors praise our caring and inclusive school

We are celebrating a positive first Ofsted inspection here at Co-op Academy Brierley. The inspectors loved our inclusive culture and how we work together to help every single child thrive.

We achieved a "Strong Standard" in all the major areas looked at, including behaviour, inclusion, leadership, and personal development. Ofsted also found that our pupils are kept safe and well cared for.

Inspectors highlighted the kind and supportive environment we have built. In their report, they wrote that "pupils are cared for deeply at this school" and that our children "feel a deep sense of belonging".

The report showed the real difference we are making for children who might have found school difficult in the past. It noted that pupils quickly feel "safe, welcome and understood" when they join us, and benefit from a great learning plan tailored just for them.

Our staff were praised for their skills and dedication. Inspectors noticed that our team has the confidence to support our pupils' needs wonderfully, working closely with external specialists to give everyone the right help.

The calm and positive atmosphere across our academy was another highlight. Inspectors saw that pupils arrive happy, settle down quickly, and are ready to learn. Our staff always show kindness, helping pupils feel secure and supported all through the school day.

Attendance is a real strength. The report noted our focus on this and the massive improvements we have made since opening. Our behaviour systems were also praised, with strong, positive relationships between staff and pupils at the heart of everything we do.

Inspectors praised the relationships we have built with families through our coffee mornings, cooking sessions, and growing projects. Parents and carers spoke beautifully about our caring staff, the progress their children are making, and our warm, welcoming atmosphere.

"We are incredibly proud of this report and what it says about our school community. Since opening, we have worked hard to create a school where every child feels safe, valued and understood, and where their individual needs are at the centre of everything we do.

"It is particularly pleasing to see inspectors recognise the inclusive culture we have built, the dedication of our staff team and the strong relationships we have with pupils and families. This report reflects the commitment, care and expertise shown by colleagues every day, as well as the resilience and achievements of our wonderful pupils."

Sarah Harridge, Headteacher

Dr Chris Tomlinson, CEO of Co-op Academies Trust, said:

"This is an excellent first Ofsted report for Co-op Academy Brierley and a testament to the outstanding work of Sarah, her team and the wider school community.

"What stands out throughout the report is the deep care, ambition and inclusion that pupils experience every day. Inspectors saw a school where children feel they belong, where their individual needs are understood and where staff are committed to helping every pupil succeed.

"Brierley has grown rapidly since opening and this report reflects the strength of leadership, the expertise of colleagues and the positive impact the school is already having on the lives of children and families across Leeds. We are incredibly proud of everyone involved."

A massive congratulations to our staff team, pupils, families, and everyone connected with Co-op Academy Brierley on this fantastic achievement!
